NIDDERDALE HIGH SCHOOL LOCAL GOVERNING BODY (LGB)
Nidderdale High School is part of Moorlands Learning Trust (MLT) multi-academy trust (MAT) and currently has 10 serving governors on the board.
The Local Governing Body (LGB), and the committees usually meet twice per term. Agendas, minutes and associated papers from the LGB meetings can be viewed at the school by request.
The Local Governing Body works under the agreed MLT scheme of delegation, in partnership with the Headteacher who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.
Trustees of the MAT, governors, associate members, the Headteacher and the clerk have the right to attend governing body meetings. In addition, the LGB can allow any other person to attend its meetings. Associate members may be excluded from any part of a meeting when the item of business concerns an individual student or member of staff.
One of the key roles and responsibilities of the LGB is to monitor the progress and performance of the school. Governors hold positions with specific responsibilities. The lead governors help the LGB to understand what happens in school and also helps the board of governors to fulfil their strategic role. Details of lead governors are shown on the Governing Board Constitution document below.

The Local Governing Board exists to help the school provide the best possible education for students. It does this by:
- Ensuring the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
- Ensuring that the Headteacher performs her responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
- Ensuring the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources
During the last few years the roles and responsibilities of school governors have both increased and developed as new legislation has been introduced. Governors are now appointed for their skills and expertise.
- Trustee Governors are appointed by the Moorlands Learning Trust Trustees
- Parent Governors are elected by the parents of students in school
- Co-opted Governors are appointed by the Local Governing Board
- Staff Governors are elected by the staff of the school
- The Headteacher holds an ex-officio position
- Associate Members are appointed by the Local Governing Board
The Headteacher and Local Governing Board work in close partnership. The Governors’ role is strategic and the Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the school. Once strategy has been agreed, the Headteacher organises and oversees the school, implementing the strategic framework established with the Local Governing Board.
